About Roy Gagaza

President and CEO of Journey Wealth Management, LLC

Roy Gagaza serves as president and chief executive officer of a retirement-focused wealth management firm, where he helps people transition from their earning years into retirement with clarity, structure, and realistic expectations. He entered the financial services profession after completing a long military career, wanting to continue a life of service in a different setting while drawing on his experience leading others through complex decisions. He now works from offices in a Central Valley community in California and on the island of Oahu, meeting with individuals and families who want guidance on organizing savings, planning income, and building long-term strategies that reflect what is most important to them.

Military Career – Foundations

Roy began his professional journey in the U.S. Army Reserve before transitioning to active duty as an Armor Officer, ultimately serving for about two decades in uniform. He completed demanding Airborne and Ranger training, learning early that preparation, discipline, and teamwork are essential in both training environments and combat. Over time, he moved into leadership roles that required him to guide soldiers through exercises, field operations, and deployments, always balancing the mission's needs with the safety and readiness of those under his command while maintaining a steady, thoughtful approach to each responsibility.

Military Career – Leadership and Deployments

Gagaza served as a tank platoon leader with an armored division during operations in the Persian Gulf region and later as a troop commander with a cavalry squadron in South Korea, gaining experience in both desert and overseas environments. He also held the position of operations and training officer, helping units from company through brigade level prepare for deployments in support of primary missions associated with conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Across several combat tours, he earned the Bronze Star for his work in two separate campaigns, recognition that reflected his consistent focus on planning, training, and calm leadership under pressure.

Preparing for a Second Career

Roy Gagaza began planning for a future in financial services midway through his military career, building on his Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing and his growing interest in economic education. Even during a year-long deployment to Kuwait in 2004, he used available time to meet with individuals and families, conduct educational seminars, and study for professional designations so he could provide informed guidance beyond his military role. Through steady effort, he earned credentials as a Certified Estate Planner (CEP®) and Registered Financial Consultant (RFC™), laying the groundwork for his next chapter and demonstrating his desire to continue serving others in a meaningful, practical way.

Transition into Wealth Management

Roy retired from the Army in 2008 and moved full-time into the financial services field, carrying forward the same sense of duty and responsibility that had guided him in uniform. He chose to concentrate on retirement and long-term planning, helping people understand how their savings, benefits, and other resources could work together to support a stable future. In his work, he emphasizes clear explanations, realistic assumptions, and respect for each person’s values, aiming to make complex topics more approachable so clients can make decisions with greater confidence rather than feeling overwhelmed or rushed.

Leadership, Services, and Recognition

Gagaza leads a practice that offers retirement planning, investment and wealth management, tax planning, health care strategies, and legacy and estate services to a broad range of clients. He listens carefully to each person’s goals and concerns before suggesting any path, preferring step-by-step strategies tailored to individual situations rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. His consistent effort has been recognized by national partners that support financial professionals, including induction into a hall of fame program, a series of annual elite advisor acknowledgments, additional honors from an insurance carrier that works closely with retirement-focused advisors, and an award marking his role in helping clients implement one hundred million dollars in premiums toward their long-term financial goals.

Client Philosophy and Community Engagement

Roy Gagaza views each client relationship as a long-term partnership grounded in trust, education, and readiness for change, encouraging people to imagine what a meaningful life after full-time work might look like and then helping them build strategies to protect savings, create dependable income streams, and leave room for unexpected events. He draws on habits formed during his years in uniform—such as discipline, careful planning, adaptability, and calm leadership—to guide clients through market shifts, personal transitions, and complicated decisions about retirement timing, income sources, and legacy wishes. Beyond his firm, he shares information through seminars offered in cooperation with public safety agencies, school districts, accounting professionals, and local business groups, while also supporting organizations that assist veterans, provide food to families, rescue animals, and preserve trails and open spaces in the communities he serves.

Education, Family, and Personal Life

Roy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing from a public university in San Jose, a foundation that helps him explain financial concepts in straightforward, accessible terms. He maintains insurance licenses in both Hawaii and California and continues to pursue ongoing learning to better serve the people who rely on his guidance.

Roy Gagaza is originally from a community on the eastern edge of the San Francisco Bay Area. He places substantial value on family life, sharing his days with a spouse who is also his business partner and serves as the firm’s chief financial officer and co-founder, three adult children, and two grandchildren. One child works alongside him as an economic consultant after studying business finance and earning an insurance license, another has built a career in education with a focus on literacy and instructional support, and the eldest manages marketing operations for a real estate software company. In his free time, he enjoys being in and around the water, playing golf, traveling, paddleboarding, snorkeling, diving, and reading, seeking balance between professional responsibilities, community involvement, and time with those he loves.
